Will I see the same doctor each visit?
Gynecology patients see the doctor of their choice each visit.
Obstetrical patients may see their primary obstetrical doctor for
most of their care. The doctors do share hospital call to keep balance
in their lives. They also share a high standard of performance that
you may expect from each one.
If I live outside Asheville, can I get my obstetrical care at
one of the satellite locations?
Yes. You may have one visit in Asheville for an ultrasound study.
Be sure to coordinate this visit with shopping!
What is my Mother's Care Card for?
This card is for obstetrical patients. This important information
piece will streamline your checkout at each visit. Be sure to have
it with you.
Can I have an ultrasound study of my baby if the insurance does
not pay for it?
Yes! We think that good care should not be determined just by
your insurance company. The ultrasound study is available to anyone
as an out-of-pocket expense. Ask your doctor for scheduling, and
be prepared to pay for the service at the time you receive it. Bring
your mother-in-law with you; it is a exciting bonding experience
for the whole family.
Why did I get a separate bill for my pap smear?
We collect and prepare the smear for processing. Pathologist
Medical Laboratory actually prepares and evaluates the smear using
the latest Thin Prep Technique.
Can a friend who is not a patient at Asheville Women's Medical
Center have her mammogram performed at the Comprehensive Breast
Center?
Anyone can call and make an appointment for a mammogram following
the guidelines described on the breast care Web page. We will notify
her directly of the results and send a copy to her primary care
physician for his/her records. If a problem appears, the center
will help her schedule a prompt appointment with one of our breast-care
specialists.
Why do I occasionally receive a charge for telephone care?
We have two skilled nurses available by telephone during regular
business hours. There is no charge for informational calls or instructions
for ongoing active care that is in progress. If we are able to save
you the inconvenience and expense of an office visit by providing
telephone care, a small charge is incurred.
Are all of your doctors board certified?
All of the doctors at Asheville Women's Medical Center have
completed a full residency in Gynecology and Obstetrics. The established
physicians are board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics
and Gynecology and maintain or exceed the yearly continuing education
requirements.
Our newer doctors are board eligible, having completed and passed
the written part of the examination. The oral portion of the examination
will be given in two years, reviewing and testing their experience
over that time. Any doctor must have and maintain full certification
in order to remain with Asheville Women's Medical Center.
Are the Women's Diagnostic Laboratory and the Comprehensive
Breast Center certified and approved?
The Diagnostic Laboratory is staffed by certified technicians.
Quality control is maintained daily. The facility is approved as
a complex office laboratory by CLIA, a nationally recognized on-site
inspection and certifying organization.
The Comprehensive Breast Center is certified by the American College
of Radiology and by the State of North Carolina Health Services
Division. The inspection is on on-site process, and the center meets
and exceeds the standards established by the inspection process.
Our technicians are experienced with years of service and are separately
certified in mammography and ultrasound. Quality control is maintained
daily. We use the MRS reporting and data system along with Siemens
top-quality imaging equipment.
Whom do I contact if I am having a particular problem that has
been difficult to solve?
Medical problems should be directed to your personal physician.
A list of the managers is on a separate Web page. They are very
helpful at bringing solutions to most of the questions you may have
involving the business process of your care. Our senior managing
physician is Dr. Stephen Hill. He is known in our practice as a
fair-minded, thoughtful person and is prepared to bring your problem
to resolution.
